With all the publicity Hayek receives from the media, people often forget that there is another very important person who was responsible for the development of the Swatch watch. Without diminishing the role Hayek played for the success of Swatch, only though the hard driving persistence of Dr. Ernest Thomke the un-Swiss low-prized plastic Swatch came into existence.

The Swiss watch multinational Swatch has announced that it will boycott all American products in the event of sanctions applied against the Swiss industry.

NEW YORK (AP) - Has sex returned to Times Square? An advertising billboard seems to suggest so. A Swatch watch ad at Broadway and West 45th Street features a larger-than-life close-up of the "Bunnysutra'' - two cartoon bunnies in what seem to be intimate positions.
"It's disgusting,'' countered Kim Hornyak, visiting from Traverse City, Mich.
Pamela Silas of Orlando, Fla., was thinking about buying the watch for her 9-year-old daughter, but then realized what she was looking at and reconsidered. "If I didn't think my daughter was looking at it,'' she added, "I'd probably find it quite humorous.''
